Honda scores big in Automobile Advertising of the Year Awards [w/videos]

This year the Detroit Auto Show didn't just celebrate the automobile, it celebrated how we find out about the automobile, too. Partnering The One Club, this year introduced the 2014 One Show Automobile Advertising of the Year Award to Cobo Hall, celebrating winners in five different categories of advertising: broadcast television, online, interactive, experiential, and print/outdoor. Winners in those categories were judged by 50 creative directors and journalists, while a Public Choice category was chosen from among nearly 20,000 online votes.

Honda walked off with three of the six awards, its Hands spot taking Broadcast honors, its Sound of Honda getting the Online category and Illusions winning Public Choice. Hyundai made the grade in Interactive with Driveway Decision Maker, Fiat captured Print/Outdoor with its "Letters" ad, and Toyota's Tundra Endeavor Campaign spot and BMW's A Window into the Near Future were co-winners for Experiential.

Is This What Miata's Grandchild Will Look Like?

With its launch confirmed for 2015, artists are going crazy for the next MX-5. Check out X-Tomi Design’s take on possible styling. With Mazda’s confirmation that the next generation MX-5 roadster will be unveiled at next year’s Chicago Motor Show, cyber space is awash with rumors regarding the next model’s design and specs. Mazda has already emphasized that the car will be equipped with a Skyactiv engine, and other sources have reported this will be a 1.3-liter, naturally aspirated unit.

While this may sound meager, the car is expected to generate an unprecedented power-to-weight ratio for Mazda, and we expect some zoom zoom performance from it. The next generation MX-5 is being developed in collaboration with Alfa Romeo. With the Italian touch and Mazda's own successfully sculpted products presented in the last few years, this car should be an all-time classic like its grandpa. Keeping that in mind, X-Tomi Design studio published a beautiful take on what it may look like on its Facebook page, and while these are just guesses, we like what we see so far.

Mazda RX-7 to Make Triumphant 2016 Return

Only thing needed now is an official production green light. It appears as if the on-again, off-again rumorsregarding a potential new Mazda RX-7 have been settled. According to a new report from Autocar, Mazda will bring back its legendary rotary-powered two-seater in 2016. Supposedly, it'll be powered by an all-new 250 horsepower rotary and will be based on a version of the same platform that'll underpin the upcoming new MX-5, itself due to arrive in 2015. At the moment, the new RX-7's exterior design hasn't been fully locked down, but the man in charge of its styling, Ikuo Maeda, has a special bond to the RX-7: his father was head of Mazda design in the 1970s when the original RX-7 debuted. Autocar is also claiming the new rotary will be a naturally aspirated unit, and won't incorporate any use of hybrid assistance. More than likely, the new engine will have a 1.2-liter capacity. Mazda execs have still yet to officially green light production, as the business case numbers are still being worked out. Fortunately, rotary development and exterior/interior design is still ongoing. Come see us at your local Mazda dealership in Akron, Ohio at Park Mazda located on the Green Auto Mile.
